This project will use ultra high spatial resolution analytical transmission electron microscopy to study the nanostructure-magnetic property relationships in magnetic thin film devices prepared by sputtering. Of particular interest are the interfaces between the different epilayers and with the substrate in the devices which are used in the field of spintronics for applications such as data storage.
The project will potentially involve collaborations with the University of Glasgow and the ISIS neutron source at Rutherford Appleton Labs.
