In this project, we will use optogenetic activation of cholinergic projections to the prefrontal cortex to test how individual neuron types are controlled by cholinergic inputs. We will test whether neurons receive direct cholinergic synapses, or are modulated by diffuse cholinergic transmission. Using optogenetic methods, we also aim to test how endogenous acetylcholine signalling is involved in attention behaviour.
